NEW WEBSITE NOW UP!!!!!

I'm excited to announce(finally), that my fancy shmancy new website www.rickyanimation.com is now fully operational and is awaited to welcome the masses! It's a giant relief, honestly. I now have a presence on the web for my work.....and the website does all the work for me. Well besides me handing out cards and what not, I can fully trust my website will do all those things like: show my work, contact info, experience, etc, without me having to worry. SIIIIIghhh. The biggest relief is that it looks like the way I want to it too. The last website I have was such crap(sorry zoomshare, you served me well), and didn't give me alot of leeway with making it represent what my work is about. BigBlackBag.com really did for me. I have to pay a little more, but I'm satisfied. No it's not flashy Flash or html....but it works for me and hope it works for whomever visits it.

So I break the bottle of champagne againts the hull of the ship! (I think I'm more excited than most people will be lol, sorry, it was a lot of hours put into it).......

I'm 24 today, March 4.....what a better day to debut the new site, right?

New Sketchbook!!

Yes, I made it. I've been making my own sketchbooks for like two or three years. It started because I was short on cash and had a bunch of paper lying around so I said, "Let's do this thing."(I didn't really say that.) Anyway I'm not gonna bore you with my crafting history. This little puppy here is my newest one, made out of a bunch of different paper textures: newsprint, manila envelopes, used animation paper, charcoal and pastel paper, you get it. It was inspired by Stephen Silver.
He taught at CalArts one year I was there and had the students make this kind of sketch book. I remember thinking how awesome that was, he's making them MAKE sketchbooks. Of course, he recommended them to get them bound at Kinko's and not by hand, like me. Yes, I'm cheap.
So I tried hole punching the pages, but I couldn't find a coil that was thick enough to bind it.....so I just punched holes in the pages and put a leather thread to tie it all together. Punching each hole for every individual page took a while, but not so much.
So here she is all done and dandy. I cut the words "animation" out of patterned paper.
I really liked how it turned out. It's ghetto, artsy, and eco-friendly.(No, I'm not an ardent environmentalist) But it does put all that paper I had laying around to good use! And there's tons more to make up more sketchbooks.

I love my new Pentel Brush Pen!

This pen works wonders. Amazing thick and think lines. Like REALLY thin! When I use it for sketching, I can barely feel it touching the paper....it's almost like I'm flying when I draw with it. These drawings are more finished but the one with the boy was the first drawing I ever did with it. I love this pen.

Here's some sketches I did for the caricature on the previous post. The guy likes to cook so that was the theme for the artwork. The order goes from bottom to top.

2010 IT'S GO TIME

So this is my first 2010 entry. I haven't posted jack squat I know. 2010, the year of the blog. Postings at LEAST once a week. That ads up to 4 postings a month, 48 postings in one year. Ok, I'll try to post more than once. It's go time. Stay tuned. To start it off, here's a custom caricature I did for a friend's brother for Christmas. I'll post the sketches at a later date. -Ricky
