Digital Caricatures!

I started a job as a Digital Caricature Artist at the Beverly Center Mall in Beverly Hills, Ca. Pretty much, my team and I are promoting the new Samsung Galaxy Note, wth S-Pen. Part of that promotion is drawing free caricatures with the phone and printing them on T-shirts for guests to take with them. It took getting used to at first..trying to work with the limitations of the S-Memo software(no layers, no eyedropper tool. But after a few dozen I figured out a workflow. The pen is by far amazing. It has amazing pressure sensitivity and is comfortable to draw with. I really wished Apple(or anyone) could come up with something as good as this.

Remembering Chuck Jones!

Remembering Chuck Jones (September 21, 1912 – February 22, 2002) Aside from Walt Disney, Chuck Jones had a huge influence on my artistic life, and just life in general. I still find myself quoting his cartoons. I loved his wit, humor, and amazing poses for his characters. He made it look so easy!

Enjoy one of my favorite Chuck Jones cartoons entitled,"Drip Along Daffy."

Grandparents Caricature

A friend of mine commissioned me to make this of her grandparents. I met them in person, and they're the friendliest people I've ever met!

The lovely couple.

San Luis Obispo Bike Month Logo Competition

Final Logo.
Sketches.

Here's my explorations for this logo...I tried to make the bike design my own by adding different gradients and simplifying the design to it's essence. The colors are purely American, since this is a national event taking place all in May. I couldn't help being subconsciously influenced by "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" when I was choosing the colors though.

I got inspiration from the bicycle wheels, the spokes and all the lines and shapes it creates. That led to make the encasing an abstract wheel. I picked a nice, clean, fun font, because riding a bike is FUN! It's was a  very organic, try, fail, redo, kind of process...like most art :)

PS- My logo didn't make to the final 7, but you can see the others here.

Hidden Away.

Hidden Away by Josh Groban

Over mountains and sky blue seas
On great circles, will you watch for me?
The sweetest feeling I've got inside
I just can't wait to get lost in your eyes

And all these words that you meant to say
Held in silence day after day
Words of kindness that our poor hearts crave
Please, don't keep them hidden away

Sing it out so I can finally breathe in
I can take in all the same
Holding out for something I believe in
All I really need today

I want to free your heart, I want to see your heart
Please, don't keep your heart hidden away

You're a wonder, how bright you shine
A flickered candle in a short lifetime
A secret dreamer that never shows
If no one sees you then nobody knows

And all these words you were meant to say
Held in silence day after day
Words of kindness that our poor hearts crave
Please, don't keep them hidden away

Sing it out so I can finally breathe in
I can take in all the same
Reaching out for someone I believe in
All I really need today

I want to feel your love, will you reveal your love?
Please, don't keep your love hidden away
I want to free your heart, I want to see your heart
Please, don't keep your heart hidden away

Childhood.

When I was a wee lad, I loved to chase cats. I don't know why, perhaps I have a bit of canine in me. I loved the thrill and adrenaline. And on occasion my friends and I would grab a camcorder and document the various cats in our neighborhood.

One time we played a game where we would pick snails off fences and chuck them at each other in an all out Snail War. I remember I wore a white t-shirt one time.......well...you get the picture.  Of course, now, I would never chuck a poor defenseless snail at anyone. Kids will be kids.

My Bro.

My younger brother, and close confidant, Carlos, is a skateboarder, caffeine junkie, book worm, an aspiring poet, and some would say, all around hipster. Which makes for perfect drawing material. :)
